I know the drivers for some sound cards (or similarly, built-in sound hardware)
include an adjustable graphic equalizer on the outputs (as well as reverb,
etc.), but I don't know of any stand-alone ...

My experience is quite similar to Andor's--audio work done in floating-point
assembly for the SHARC family. Recently, I have had to interface from my
