  • In sines+noise models, transients are ``smeared'' over time
  • In sines+noise+transients models, they are only time-shifted
  • Missed transients can cause artifacts in S+N+T models
  • Need to consider carefully what should be defined as a transient
  • Hybrid schemes possible (transients stretch some)

He is presently Professor of Music and Associate Professor (by courtesy) of Electrical Engineering at Stanford's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA), teaching courses and pursuing research related to signal processing applied to music and audio systems.
