what is gated response - elvi...@hotmail.com - Jun 24 9:38:18 2009

Hi~

I saw a function in a loudspeaker measurement program called "Gated
Response" but there is no explaination. Could someone tell me what is
that?
What does "Gate Response" do in audio aquisition?

Many many thanks!
Alvis

Hi Alvis,

"Gated" means that not all of the impulse response is is measured but
only its part, gated by some enable signal. You can find the definition of the
"gated response" test on this page:

I believe it has to do with a time limit in when the measurement program
"looks" for
the response. The idea is to avoid reflections when calculating frequency
response.
For example if your acquisition equipment is set up 25m away from the speaker,
the
measurement program might limit the acquisition period to 15 msec or so after
the
output stimulus has completed.
