Technical discussions related to Audio Signal Processing (digital effects, acoustics, noise reduction, musical signal processing, etc).
hi, Can anyone tell me:(I am a biginer in DSP) How phase distortion affects signal? How to detect it? What will be the effect of it on audibility? Thanks in advance, Nawab Ahmad
Hi Nawab You can try this yourself and see, phase is very important for an signal cos it has more information than frequency. consider this example you have a signal x(t), which consist of 3 sine waves with freq w1 w2 w3, and initial phase phi1 phi2 phi3.a1 a2 a3 that is x(t) = a1*sin(w1*t+phi1) + a2*sin(w1*t+phi2) +a3*sin(w1*t+phi3) u can plot this and see in matlab. Now try changing inital phases phi_i to some other value and plot it and see for eg x1(t)= a1*sin(w1*t+phi5) + a2*sin(w1*t+phi6) +a3*sin(w1*t+phi4) The signal x1 and x are not same cos there is change in phase information although the freq spectrum will remain same. its very imp to retain the phase information esp in speech and image signals. I hope this helps regards Amit --- nawab ahmad <nawab_01cs33@nawa...> wrote: --------------------------------- hi, Can anyone tell me:(I am a biginer in DSP) How phase distortion affects signal?
