The use of an electret mic on a PC assumes "phantom" power from the sound card. The DSK does not have a mic pre amp circuit ... So you need to use a powered mic. The powered mic I use from Radio Shack looks like a PC mic and has a spot under the stand to install two AA batteries. -----Original Message-----
hi all I am using DSK 6711 fed with a condenser mic (which u get with the computer). Its unable to detect the input from mic even after the pre-amp gain 0f codec is set to 20 dB. The codec is set using the control reg. 4. The mic works fine (I have checked it with windows sound recorder). Does anybody know whats the problem?

Or use one with a wall-wart so when your signal gain is messed up you don't suspect your algorithm when actually it's the batteries. But AD535 codec has got the pre-amp for the mic input. Which can give upto 20 dB of gain. "Dillon, Tom" <>: > The use of an electret mic on a PC assumes "phantom" power from the > sound > card. Seshu- > But AD535 codec has got the pre-amp for the mic input. > Which can give upto 20 dB of gain. That's Ok for dynamic mic or other powered-mic, but not enough gain for condenser mic. Something like 40 dB is needed. Jeff Brower DSP sw/hw engineer Signalogic > "Dillon, Tom" <>: > > > The use of an electret mic on a PC assumes "phantom" power from the > > sound > > card. Seshu- > but the condenser mic works for mic-in of the EVM6201(whose > codec provides the same pre-amp 20dB gain). What level is the signal from the mic? Can you measure on dig. scope? If you know the level out from the mic, then you know whether the board + codec can do something useful or not. I'm not familiar with the EVMC6201 board; maybe it has amplifier circuitry the DSK does not. > Also the manual of AD535 says that the codec provides a 2.5/1.5v bias output to support the electret/condenser microphones. It also might be possible that the AD535 gain is not being set correctly. Try setting it to 0 dB and verify your input data is changing. Seshu, If you look at the Schematic Page 17 for the EVM (Refer to SPRU305 page B-19) you will see the Microphone preamp circuit formed by the TLC2272ACD op amp and the associated passive components. There is no mic pre amp circuit in the C6711 DSK (Refer to DSK Schematic page 14). Hence, you will need a powered mic for use on the C6711 DSK. Regards,
