Basic question on IEKC64x - akalya - May 29 15:59:00 2003

Hello:

Recently bought a IEKC64x board from ATEME. I would like to use it as
stand-alone and connect to the PC's parallel port just as I use the
C6711 DSK (i.e. use CCS and download *.out files to the board and
run) ; but there is no embedded emulator like in the 6711DSK where we
connect to the parallel port of the DSK. There are no such cables in
this (expensive) box from ATEME (nor help! ).

Would like to know whether I just need a cable connecting the PC's
parallel port to the 14-pin JTAG slot of the IEKC64X or would I also
need an external XDS510 emulator.

Also, how would I use the J5 header (14-pin JTAG port) in the
C6711DSK ? Is this different from using the JTAG port on the
IEKC64X ?

Really appreciate any help,

Thank you very much,
ka

You would need an external emulator. There are several companies that sell
parallel port (and USB) emulators that would plug into the JTAG header. A
partial list with prices is available on the TI website:

The NVDK 64x from ATEME needs a external emulator. It usually comes bundled with
the hardware. Have you checked your shipping box carefully? Was any emulator
there in the list of shipping items?

It depends on the option you choose.
The 4500$ option doesn't include CCS nor Emulator
The 6000$ option does include CCS + XDS510PP

When working on imaging and video, software may be
large or you may want to see images through CCS
View -> Graph -> Image.
The XDS510PP is quite slow for that usage and
you should consider a PCI emulator.

When NVDK is bought directly from ATEME, there
is an offer for the ATEME aDICE710 PCI emulator.
If you need USB emulator, consider those from
Softronics (www.softronx.com).

Note that Kane Computing, a major UK based DSP Tools
distrutor have done a very interresting survey on
emulators with performance comparisons.
Check their web site.

Best regards,

Jean-Michel MERCIER.
