profiling - Author Unknown - Mar 22 20:19:00 2001

hi!

running 5x simulator with CCS version 1.2.
new to DSP programming, but have been able to get
a minimal set of code compiled and running and
i want to get a rough estimate of the cycle count.
i tried using HOSTclock() to get a cycle count
because with the 3x/4x compiler, this returned
the cycle count of the target since the beginning of
executation. i'm starting to think the 5x/6x compiler
doesn't do that.

Not only is using the CCS gui environment a real pain,
setting profile points is just laughable. i need something
in the code to measure performance and record results.
I've also had trouble setting profile points.

Any advice?

noel

Hi neol,
This question is being asked by millions and billions of people around
the world but in pain.TI does not seem to care about it.I am
experiencing the same problem now and have finally decided to get a DSK
and use a probe and oscilloscope to measure the timing. If you choose TI
you have got to bear a few tortures it seems.
None around the world are able to give an exact solution to this
profiling problem using CCS(I have asked this question in almost all the
DSP and CODE-COMP news groups that exist in net :-)
Anyway if you get an solution for this from anybody please do inform
me.
Thanks,
Prasanna.
