Difference between ERL and ERLE - ganesa1234 - Nov 18 8:18:00 2004

Dear Friends

Just to ask you'll on what is the difference between ERL and ERLE ?
I have done plot's where the range of the ERLE is always in the
positive, but then, some other researches do not have ERLE, but
they have ERL, and their plot is in the negative region.

Hope you guys can help me out. Many Many Thanks

Regards

Hi,

ERL == echo return loss == ratio of sent energy to echo energy (or the
other way around, according to state)
ERLE == echo return loss enhancement == the increase in the ERL when you
switch the echo canceller on.

You might have a 15dB loss, and when you turn on the canceller and it
becomes 45dB. So, your ERL is 15dB without the canceller, and 45dB with
the canceller. The canceller gives you an ERLE of 30dB.

The "taste" part just means you might see a minus sign or you might not.
If its a loss, I think it should be positive. Some people make it negative.

Regards,
Steve
