My OS is Windows XP. I have installed Matlab R12, but when I use SPTool, options Import, Export and Preferences don't work? Could anyone tell me any update which I need to install to solve the problem. Zlatko |

Hi, Actually I dont how you can solve the problem with Windows XP, however I am thinking that the problems are concerned with Java Virtual Machine - you can follow the instructions below... Section 27: Why am I having problems starting MATLAB on my Pentium 4 machine? This error occurs because there is a conflict between the Windows JRE (Java Runtime Environment) and the Pentium 4 processor. A possible workaround is to replace the current version of the JRE with a newer version of the JRE (1.1.8_006). One location where this file can be found is http://java.sun.com/products/archive/jdk/1.1.8_006/jre/index.html Our development staff is in the process of making a patch to correct this. In the meantime, you can use the following steps to fix the problem: 1.. Download the Java Runtime Environment (1.1.8_006) from the above site (either the US English Version or the Internationalized version) 2.. Run the jre 1.1.8_006-win-i.exe to install the JRE. (The default destination directory is C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.1.) 3.. Rename the directory to C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\jre 4.. Rename the existing $MATLAB\sys\java\jre\win32\jre directory to something, such as $MATLAB\sys\java\jre\win32\jre.old. 5.. Copy the directory C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\jre to the $MATLAB\sys\java\jre\win32\ directory. (You should now have at least two folders in $MATLAB\sys\java\jre\win32\: jre.old and jre.) This should have completed your upgrade to JRE 1.1.8_006. You should now be able to successfully launch MATLAB. NOTE: The Pentium 4 processor is not officially supported with MATLAB 6.0 (R12). |

Hi Zlatko, I have found similiar problems with R12 under Windows XP with some of the MATLAB tools. Mathworks also state that this is a known problem. From memory I think they said that they would NOT release a patch to fix this problem. One thing that they did suggest as a workaround (I've tried it and it seems to work) is to change the Windows XP desktop settings to the "Classical" layout (making the user interface look as if it's from Windows 2000 or earlier). Give that a go. Quang --- Zlatko Petroff <> wrote: > My OS is Windows XP. I have installed Matlab R12, > but > when I use SPTool, options Import, Export and > Preferences don't work?
