DSP board - Henry Wijaya - Jan 31 12:58:00 2001

Hi people, I wanted to expand the external memory on the 563xx EVM
boards, but it doesn't seem possible since the EVM boards don't have any
memory expansion connectors. So I was thinking of building a whole new DSP
board just by 'following' the EVM's schematics and add as much external
memory (SRAM) as I wish. Is it possible to succesfully build a working DSP
board this way? Is there any firmware issue or other things I should be
aware of? Has anyone had any experience in this matter?

That should work fine. the schematics are accurate, and the design is very
basic and you should have no problem with layout, component placement, or other
assembly issues. You might start with the 56311 EVM board; for external memory
accesses it uses AA0 for Chip Select and either DAB15 or AA3 to select 64k x 24
unified or separate 32k x 24 X: and Y: areas.

The approach used on the 56311 EVM is flexible from a software algorithm point
of view, but still simple to implement in hardware -- it would be a good
approach to expand upon.
