New DSP board using the 56311 - Michael Hodges - Jul 21 21:47:00 2001

Hello all,

I have been using the DSP56311EVM for some time now but the size of the
board makes it difficult to use in all but the largest of projects. So I
decided to design a much smaller board, leaving off the power supply and
command converter. A few of these boards have been built and tested with no
problems and I am soon to order a larger batch. The new boards will differ
slightly from the prototypes but will remain the same size, 2.2 by 3.5
inches. They use the CS4218 stereo 16 bit codec and Atmel AT29LV020 PEROM
for stand alone operation. The codec uses ESSI0 but all other peripherals
are pinned out to headers, Address, Data, Bus Control, Host, ESSI1, SCI,
Timers and OnCE.
For development, you can download Suite 56 from the Motorola website, this
includes a debugger, simulator, assembler and linker. All you need is a
simple level shifter to interface the OnCE port to the parallel port of the
PC. I use a single sided home made board with a couple of octal latches and
a db25.
I would be interested in any ideas or suggestions before I go ahead and
order the new boards.
A nice picture of the first prototype is on the website of Hands Electronics
www.rf-kits.demon.co.uk under new products.

Best Regards,

Mick Hodges, G4OPE
