mp3 equalizer - Sherwin Huang - 2004-02-18 07:20:00

Hello
I am a new engineer in the DSP field.
I have to implement an equalizer for our mp3 decoder.
The equalizer must include 4 modes, which is pop, rock, classic and
jazz.
The equalizer and mp3 decoder are implemented using ADI-2181 DSP.
Would you please tell me where to find the information about the 4
kinds of equalizer?

Thanks in advance.
Sherwin

The display in my Subaru radio shows an interesting pattern. You might
look at a low-end car radio, the kind with a few choices rather than am
equalizer. (My radio also has bass and treble controls when I activate
them.)

The only difference I see in Jim's first three settings is volume. I
take it you sat the joke.

Doesn't the Rock-setting usually look like this ?

Honestly:
I own a portable mp3-player with selectable EQ presets
(like the ones that have been mentioned by Jim - they
all sound bad except the setting "Standard" - which I
guess turns the "EQ" off)
IMO the only reason why manufactures include this crap
is to extends the feature list.

@Jim: Sorry, I had nothing much contributing stuff to
say - I just wanted to let you know that these EQ-presets
are of no great use.

Apple iTunes has eq presets with similar names, and it also shows
how each setting looks on a 10-band graphic equalizer console.

Motorola has a application note on one method of implementing a basic
10-band eq using the 56000 on their dsp site. Google should be able
to find it.

Does anyone know where to find some example algorithms for the
pretty looking music "visualizers"?

IMHO. YMMV.

Dear Jim, Jerry, Sebastian, Ronald:

Thank you for your kind answer.
These information is useful for me.
