GEL - Peter Choi - 2004-07-14 00:42:00

Hello,
Can someone explain what this mean?  Everytime I start CCS it gave me a
message saying the following:
"C6x11 DSK (TI)/CPU_1:
 The Startup GEL File was specified in the Setup Program for this processor,
and will be used instead of the one specified on the command line."

What is CPU_1?  And what is this command line that it is talking about?

Hello Peter,

Go to your directory for CCS and run Setup Code Composer Studio.
Do not import config (close). Then you'll see on the left side
"My System->Your Emulator->CPU_1"
This is your "CPU_1" you can also rename it to grimblfix ;-)
Remember that you can have more than one CPU on a board (JTAG-Chain).
Remember that you can have more than one board of CPU's (e.g. one with a single chip and one with more).
Further Remember that you can have more than one Emulator (e.g. a 510 and a DSK and a 560...).

Right click on emulator -> properties and see Board properties->Startup GEL File(s)
Here your target specific GEL-file is mentioned.

Despite all this the CCS-help is not that worse. It shourely will tell you what a GEL File is for.

About the command line I can't help. May you start CCS with added commands in the command line ?

Hello Peter,

The "Setup program" is a separat program comming with CCS.
Normally you've:
- Code Composer Studio
- Setup Code Composer Studio
- Configuration Tool
This is for 5000 and 6000 'er CCS-Version the same.
"Setup Code Composer Studio" is missing if you've a DSK
(you don't need to setup as you can't change from DSK to another board).

I have the DSK.  So how do I do what you said about the GEL file if I don't
have the setup program you were describing?

Ok. You can't. Unfortunately I don't have a DSK any more, so I can't help.
Look if it is possible to give commands when starting CCS - But I don't know.

P.S.: CCS does not bring this message after install. Don't you remember what you've done to get it ?
    (Sometimes I whish I'd have a Video-Camera behind me ...)

Hello,

Just realized that I do have the Setup CCS utility.  I can access this by
starting CCS, and then go File->Setup CCS.

I do see also the GEL file as you instructed and now understand that this is
the file the message was referring to during CCS startup.  So, the question
is do CCS not normally have a GEL file after installed?

But you seem to define a second one somewhere else.
(Which is not normally after installed).
