OT: I'm ticked off at DSP guru fred harris

Started by Rick Lyons September 27, 2015
Hi Guys,
DSP guru fred harris has published journal and
conference papers with a lady co-author named
Elettra Venosa. This ticks me off! Fred's
co-authors look like Ms. Venosa and my co-authors
look like Eric Jacobsen, Randy Yates, and Grant Griffin?

Like just ain't fair.

Hi, Richard. There's more than just papers! The two folks have actually co-authored a book, "Software Radio: Sampling Rate Selection, Design and Synchronization". (Which is "derived from" Ms. Venosa's Ph.D. thesis.) I've purchased that book because of fred harris'es name a few years ago, and it was a disappointment because of its narrow focus (I wanted a textbook). It should be okey if you are interested in one of the topics explored in the book, though. Regards, Evgeny.

That's kind of a sexist comment, Rick. Possibly understandable, but sexist. -- Tim Wescott Wescott Design Services http://www.wescottdesign.com

Hi Evgeny, Thanks for your reply. Yep, I knew about the book and that it was based on someone's Ph.D thesis but I didn't know which of the three authors wrote the thesis. Yesterday I tried to find a Ph.D thesis by Elettra Venosa on the web, but I failed. [-Rick-]

Would you want your female colleagues to judge the desirability of your work by how good you look? -- Tim Wescott Wescott Design Services http://www.wescottdesign.com

hey, didn't you omit Greg Berchin? about 5 years ago i was in the Harvard Coop and saw a book with an interesting title (something about DSP tricks or whatever was the name of your IEEE column) and it had Greg's FDLS in it. i was real jealous. a few references maybe, but i never got anything of mine into a monograph.
