Hello everybody, -I often get confused between an audio codec and an audio file format. Doesnt a .mp3 extension necessarily mean that the file has been encoded using 'mp3' encoding format? -Another question, can you please point out the basic differences between how decoding of an audio file is carried out in an audio player (like an ipod) and an audio player application (like windows media p...

Hi ! I have little experience with time filtering ,ad i'd very much appreciate some input. So here's the deal: I'm trying to enhance audio with some non-linear processing so basically I have an audio extract that i cut into 50% overlapping frames. Subsequently, i window each frame by a smoothing window. then I bandpass each frame F with an IIR filter (order N) using the function 'filter' pr...

Hi all, I am working on an Noise Adaptive Playback project to eliminate the noise from a microphone of the USB HeadSet. My project is working ok with floating point number, now i am converting it to fixed point number to run on an ARM7 processor. Most of calculation in my source code is from -1 to 1, but there are some value very big , the biggest value is around 23000. I don't know which f...

I've got a binary file in 24 bits that I would like to convert to 16 bits and 12.. Does anyone know if there is a simple way of doing it in matlab besides using fread(fid,inf,'bit24=> bit16') because that doesn't seem to be working.. Also tried to convert the bin file to a wav file and then decrease bit size with a program like Audacity. However, Audacity has its limits.. ie from 32 to 24

Hello there, I'm new in digital signal processing. I'm going to create a linear phase filter with filter lenght N = 512 for audio signal processing in Matlab. But I'm kind of confused about the the relation between filter and fft and ifft. I have measured a frequency response of the dummy head. This data is the magnitude response at diffrent frequency points, i think I can say th...

Hi, I was wondering if it is possible produce a sliding DFT, but also to keep the effects of a zero padded spectrum. For example, for a non zero padded signal the sliding DFT complex frequnecy spectrum is calculated as follows Xk(n) = [Xk(n-1)-x(n-N) + x(n)] *exp^(j2pik/N) which is the same as moving a window on by one sample and taking the FFT again. but when zero padding in the...

Hello, I've written a Matlab audio clip search engine as part of an undergraduate research project (it's by no means optimized for serious high intensity usage), and I was wondering if it works on other systems. If anyone here is interested in audio fingerprinting, or is simply curious (and has a little free time), would you mind taking a look and telling me if it runs on your system? Yo...

Hi all this is my first post, I was looking for some help with frequnecy domain convolution. > From what I understand multiplication in the time domain is equivalent to convolution in the frequency domain and vice versa. What I would like to do is produce the same frequency spectrum produced by hann windowed audio (in the time domain), which is done through time domain multiplication, b

Suggestions on how to find frequency of splashes (swimmer) in water using audio

Hi, I am new to DSP and such, and I was wondering if you guys/gals can give me any suggestions on hardware and software tools which can allow me to plot the frequency of splashes made by paddling of the limbs. Say we have a swimmer in a small pool. I want to know if I can find out the frequency of the 'splashes' (I was thinking of using the sound of the limbs moving and splashing in wate...

Hello all, I have a code of linear pcm to u/A law conversion and viceversa to simulate on CCS, and i want to test it with standard input sequence and verify the output with expected result value. where can i get the standard test input and output table or simply conversion look up tables to analys the code. Thanks in advance, Rahul jadhav.
