Hi, I want to simulate an adaptive beamforming algorithm (using QR-RLS). From what I learned, I have the following thoughts and questions. Because I am not sure whether they are right or not (and the question is still unsolved), I want to get your answer to these. From ?Adaptive Filter Theory? of Simon Haykin, 4th edition, Page 115, "The essence of a Wiener filter is that it minimizes the me...

Hi, I'm doing a very simple beamforming/phased array project for a bit of fun. What I have is 4 40kHz ultrasonic transducers being sampled at 200kHz. I'm having problems formulating a simple delay and sum beamformer. When I do quite simply delay by so many samples and sum, what I get are answers which are reasonable but wrong. So I cant quite figure out what step I'm missing. The data r...

Hi, A typical beamforming method widely used in ultrasound technology is to apply delays between channels and then summing the signals of all the channels. However, when properly calculated delays are applied, it could happen that the phase of the arriving signal is 180 deegres (half the ultrasound wavelength) shifted between channels and summed amplitude is decreased. This results

## Implement Beamforming at 2.6 GHz

I am trying to implement a multiple antenna (16 channels) beamforming system with 2.6GHz carrier freq. To capture the phase difference between channels, I need to downconvert the 2.6GHz RF to complex baseband using some I/Q mixers. I found out (from Marki) that a 2.6GHz I/Q mixer costs over $150, which is way above my budget limit... I wonder if there is any trick to avoid having mulitple mixers...

Hi All, I am doing beamforming in MATLAB and I am not familiar in both very much. I hope someone can help me out by giving link of paper or MATLAB work. I have a planar array antenna (rectangular shape) with 16 elements. The RF signal will be incident on those array. I am trying to find the DOA(direction-of-arrival)on the antenna array. I am now trying to use a conventional beamformer algorith...

I have a very basic question with regards to beam-forming or MRC. When I apply complex weigths for example while doing co-phasing for MRC, does this phase rotate my constellation. Everywhere I read , I never see a beamforming effect on the demodulation. Given Im using a PSK kind of modulation, don't these complex weights affect my constellations. After all isnt pSk modulation some form of Sin(wct + ...

I'm working on the desing of an active beamforming antenna. I'm a beginner and I'm not able to explain why if I have a 21Mhz bandwidth I need an ADC of 105MSPS to digitalize the received signal. Which is the minimum sample rate and resolution of the ADC and DAC on A/D and D/A conversion of a signal of 21Mhz bandwidth and why? It should be determinated by the Nyquist freq. but...then why (for wi...

Hi, please read this question, I'm really confused about what the literature tells... Some days ago, I asked about the possibilities of using DOA stimation algorithms with adaptive algorithms for implementing beamforming. I found diferent articles that told me this was a good idea. Howerver, I asked it in this forum and someone (that I think is an expert about that) told me that I've to stay aw...

Hi there, after reading the paper by F.R. Farrokhi on "Transmit Beamforming and Power Control for Cellular Wireless Systems" I still kinda confused about the virtual uplink concept. I would like to simulate the virtual uplink concept to gain more insight. I'm not very experience in matlab simulation and I certainly hope theres some kind soul out there that can help me out a little. Furthermo...

Hi I'm new to DSP and i'm doing a project on simulation of Digital Beamforming. I want to know how to get started with this. These are the objectives of the project : 1: To receive the RF signal, process and digitize the signal, and generate multiple receive beams. 2: To incorporate variable number of array elements and beams 3: To steer the generated beams in specific directions 4: To restric...

Hello, I'm developing a radar project but I have a problem. The project consists in the position (elevation and azimuth) and velocity estimation of a target using a 2D array antenna. The DOA of the signal reflected by the target has to be estimated using beamforming. I'm reading something about DOA problem but any model is based on the assumption that the signal trasmitted is a narrowband signal,...

Hi, I'm trying to implement a Wimax system using beamforming (8 antennas at the base station) with spatial multiplexing (two antennas at the MS), so that I would end up with two spatial "pipes". The base station would therefore use a four-antenna array to steer a beam to the first receive antenna, and another array to steer a beam to the second one. I am using Matlab. I already have written ...

Hi, I am trying to implement the Bartlett's algorithm (conventional beamforming) to find the DOA for a planar array geometry which has a 2x2 array structure. I generate a input signal and then find the steering vector for the antenna array as A = [1 exp(- j*k*d*sin(theta)*cos(phi) exp(-j*k*d*sin(theta)*sin(phi) exp(-j*k*d*(sin(theta)*cos(ph...

Hi, Im an undergraduate student and I have researched how to estimate the direction of arrival of a signal using a FFT. I understand how to use it and how to implement the algorithm, but im unsure as to why when performing an FFT on spatially separated data this yields an angle? Thanks, Jan

Hi, (Accept my apologies if I am posting to the wrong newsgroup: I am not totally sure what group would be best to address regarding my question.) I am working with general 2-D adaptive arrays right now and my understanding (from EE's in this area) is that null-steering is typically better than optimization of the SINR (constrained or unconstrained). Based on what I've read about the...
