Hello Group, I'm trying to use a general purpose timer to generate periodic interrupts on the Blackfin BF561. I have the EZ-KIT, and I can't find any good examples to accomplish this. I've read the manual and set the registers as follows in the code snippet. I do clear the status bit in the timer0 ISR. I have the timer in PWM_OUT mode. I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong cause it just won't ...

First, Hello to all members! I'm very new in DSPs and embedded devices, but I have a little experience with microcontrolers in school and lots of Linux experience. I've met with a team that develops their own hardware (these boys have worked with DSPs) and they want to make their own board with Blackfin BF532 DSP. I have downloaded uCLinux along with blacfin-toolchain, u- boot and some othe...

Hi All, This doesn't really relate to DSP algorithms per-se, but more to a DSP itself (sorry!). The Blackfin marketing blurbs claim that they require only Bluetooth RF to complete a Bluetooth connection (Rather than a Bluetooth baseband and BT RF.) There is no BT radio I/F hardware on the DSPs. Does anybody know if this is a true claim or if, when they refer to being able to make a Blue...

Hi all, I'd like to do a project using an Analog Devices Blackfin 531/532 but definately won't have access to a JTAG interface and, unless I can get the current US$99 EZ-Kit deal here in New Zealand, without the JTAG-USB debug on the AD dev kit. Will it be easy to get the chip running on a custom board? Does anyone have experience like this? I have access to VisualDSP (90 days) so ca...

Hello All, I've run into a weird problem with VDSP 5.0 SP7 tools for BlackFin. Once the size of the code + data is about 200k, the meminit tool refuses to put the meminit stream into the ROM memory section, complaining that there is no space. If I cut the same ROM into two sections, and assign one of them exclusively for meminit, then it links just fine. To make the things even more ...

A friend asked me today how to transpose an array of bits on the Blackfin. Bascially, the requirement is to turn columns of bits into rows, as follows: Word 1: a1 b1 c1 d1 ... Word 2: a2 b2 c2 d2 ... ... becomes: Word 1: a1 a2 a3 a4 ... Word 2: b1 b2 b3 b4 ... ... Each input word contains 12 useful bits within a 16-bit word, with 4 bits unused. The output words can be...

Having used a Sony 2001D radio for about 25 years (an excellent set which which still works perfectly) I felt like getting myself one of the new DAB radios. I saw from the latest ADI adverts that a company called Sonarics Labs is using the Blackfin DSP in their digital radio modules and found from their web site that it is used in the BT Aviator DAB/FM radio. Reviews looked excellent so I ord...

Hi All, I am quite new to the DSP programming. There is an ongoing debate at my place regarding the way to use the ISR as part of the program flow. Could it really be reasonable to put a lot of work inside the ISR? Is it different from working in an OS like VxWorks? What are the pros and cons in doing a lot of work inside the ISR - speaking about the BlackFin Familly? I will really apprec...

I would like to choose a DSP for my project between ADI Blackfin and TI C55x. After some search I got that these 2 families are the best as low power DSP. I just want to choose one from them for my project. Can you please help me by stating the differences between these 2 families? This will help me a lot in taking the right decision. Bassem Zaki

Hi all, I have the following issue. A ADI blackfin processor has SDRAM attached, and data cache enabled. When I read from SDRAM, cache would normally increase performance. However, I am accessing some data on a random base, only reading single or few bytes in a row. Speculative reads of the cache engine seem to eat performance in this case quite significantly. I can of course decl...

Hi, Now VLIW architecture is chosen for powerful DSP such C6000 from TI, MSC81xx from Freescale, blackfin from Analog Devices. From papers and books, I learn that register allocation and instruction scheduling are two important phases in an optimizing compiler for exploiting greater instruction level parallelism(ILP). Register allocation tries to reduce spill code, but in blackfin and MSC8...

To handle the sound part of the device we're using a Blackfin 532 from Analog Devices As a start we want to provide G.711a- and ulaw for the user and later if time permits a lower bitrate codec such as g.726. Our problem is that we're stuck in selecting an external audio codec. What we would like to see in an external au...

Hello all, As a term project I would like to implement a simple DTMF decoder on a Blackfin BF533 EZ-KIT development board. I have the necessary matlab files to generate the tones and I have created 8 FIR bandpass filters, one for each DTMF frequency +/- 20Hz. I made these in Matlab using fdatool and output to a 16 bit signed integer. I took Analog Device's Talkthrough example program and...

Hi I have an EZ-Kit lite for the BF533 cpu. It connects to the PC through an undocumented USB interface, which most certainly uses JTAG to the cpu. Could it be so that this USB-interface could connect to an "outside" system, i.e. not the on-board Blackfin? The EZ-kit has a JTAG-connector and the documentation says that if connected the USB-interface is disconnected. Probably it is more or...

I am a total newbie in signal processing. Is it possible to decimate a signal from 16.6 Khz to 16 Khz? I have an ADC interfaced to a Blackfin processor. Blackfin processor generates the CNV frequency for the ADC at 200 Khz. I need to sample data from 12 channels of the ADC, so it turns out to be 200/12 = 16.6 Khz. But in my program, the later stages require data sampled at 16 Khz. I cannot ch...
