I have previously used the ADI Sharc and TigerSharc DSPs for FFT 32-bit floating point processing. What is currently the best processor / solution under 10 Watts for FFTs? (Am looking to do 1k to 16k 1D and 2D FFTs as quickly as possible)

I'm remarkably new to DSPs, and I've got this TigerSHARC. Well, four of them, but I'm just fiddling with one at the moment. I'm used to coding for desktop apps, and whilst my C code runs fine I'm not sure about how long various operations take in terms of clock cycles on this T'SHARC. Looking through the various manuals, I note it has a nice bit barrel and also a multiplication unit. I ...

Hi, I was wondering about this: I have programmed a C-function in VisualDSP++ and the function is going to be executed on the SHARC ADSP21364 EZKIT evaluation board. I want to know what actually happens on a hardware architectural level when the function executes. For the sake of simplicity, let's say I have this C-program: ---------------------- float a,b,c; void main(void) ...

For some reason, I get an error when trying to install the drivers on my laptop. The OS is Millenium. Anyone seen this problem? It finds the drivers ok and almost completes the installation, then crashes near the end. Is this an incompatibility problem with Me ? Anyone know? Thanks =^^= Dave Moore

I'm using Analog Devices' SHARC ADSP21065l board. My bundled VisualDSP++ documentation states: "The rand function returns a pseudo-random integer value in the range [0, 2^32 =3F 1]." 2^32 = 4294967296. After running the below code for about an hour I ended up with j = 2147483647 i.e. j was equal to exactly half of 4294967296 i.e. exactly half of (2^32 -1) //====================...

According to the information from ADI website, Visual DSP exists no longer. Crosscore is official successor, albeit not quite compatible. Does this imply near termination of BlackFin and Sharc product lines? Is this a sign that entire ADI goes south? Vladimir Vassilevsky DSP and Mixed Signal Consultant www.abvolt.com

After discussing with ADI support, the part 21367 seems to better match our requirements : - Supports multiprocessing and its on-chip bus arbitration logic allows glueless connection of up to 4 DSPs - 2400 MFLOPS instead of 1200 for the 21262 - in addition it features a SDRAM controller that could be useful to design a generic audio platform. - 8 SPORTS instead of 6 for the 21262 My ques...

I am starting to learn the DSP by using the Analog DSP. I am wondering which one is "best" - I do not have target application now. just for learning DSP. What I mean "best" is that the chip architecture is current, stable, widely used, easy use(?), and the support for the chip last longer - some chip might be outdated. TigerSharc? Sharc? - will be replaced by TigerSharc? Blackfin?

Hi all ! Thank you for reading my post. I would like to do a custom DSP board for audio processing. I also would like to put the release under GPL license, so I'd like to find a DSP for which gcc has been ported. I first wanted to use a SHARC 212xx ou 213xx, but g21 only supports 210xx. Then I saw TI C6272, but it seems that the c6x-gcc has not been targeted for c67x. Well, I ...

I've just got a couple of samples of the new ADSP-21262 SHARC DSP (1200 MFLOPS!) in the LQFP package. It is a masked-ROM device, and I wondered if there was likely to be anything useful in the ROM. I've started designing a simple PCB so that I can play with them, it'll consist basically of the '21626 and a suitable codec. Leon

Hello, I am going to be designing a system for processing biomedical signals (from neural tissue), and I am interested to hear what some people think might be a good choice for a processor based on some of my criteria. We have a hardware system now that works great (it uses the Sharc 21065), but we eventually need to design a more mobile unit. Here are some of my initial criteria: 1) it...

Hello all, I'm currently evaluating some DSPs for a soon to come project which will include the development of a hardware platform and the port of a software currently running on Mac and PC platforms. I've written a non optimized piece of code (in C++) and ran it with the simulators provided by Texas and Analog. I got about 74000 cycles for the 6713 and 32000 for the 21262. I don't want to...

Hi. I want to use a very large FFT (65536 samples) on a Sharc 21065L. But I encountered a problem with the ADI FFT (rfft65536) with my DSP: the twiddle-factors need to be in the PM, but that is far too much data for the internal memory of the 21065. I tried the FFT from "Numerical Recipies in C", but the results are not really correct, there are errors for low frequencies. Now I'm looking for...
