ADI also uses JTAG, and their evaluation boards have a built in USB
connection to the DSP.

Even with JTAG everyone has their own proprietary interface. Spectrum
Digital has some very cost-effective evaluator boards for TI's DSPs that
have the JTAG translation hardware built in.
Analog Devices used to use a full-proprietary interface; I don't know if
they've gone to JTAG or not.

i'm interesting in ham radio systems (particularly direct sampling
techniques), and although i will be starting with FPGA's i would like to
advance to encorporating DSP's into my design. I am a broke college
student now though, and was wondering if the JTAG gear i buy for FPGA
programming would most likely work for DSP's as well?
If not, what sort of interfaces do DSP's usually use?
