That is pretty cool! I do like the juxtaposition of DSP engineering and confused musician/hackers being thrown together. If I had more time this would be something fun to play with. I've only recently started using foot boxes (since I mostly play acoustic), and this could be a pretty interesting diversion. -- Eric Jacobsen Minister of Algorithms Abineau Communications http://www.abineau.com

We can do the hardware and software design for you. The manufacturing costs depend on numbers; so I can only give you the ballpark: The engineering costs (HW and SW) are going to be about $25,000. Plastic tooling: $25,000 Agency approvals (CE and such): $25,000 BOM + production will be about $100. Also note that *distribution and all that crap* could cost hundreds of thousands in licenses and millions in patent litigations. Are you aware of the Line6 SDK? http://line6.com/tcddk/ Different kit from your list above (Freescale rather than Sharc), but all wrapped up in pedal hardware ready to rock. (Unless of course your employer already is Line6...) Richard Dobson

Hi,

I think I am on to a fairly interesting idea worth pursuing. Basically
it is an effect pedal for guitar/voice with a set of new features. Not
dare to ask my boss coz he will for sure be pissed.

So I'd like to collect some idea of what the real cost would be for
making it, this should include BOM, tooling... but ignore the
distribution and all that crap.

the major parts are
Sharc-21261/2 $6
Some micro with flash and USB (8051/52 ?) $1
Stereo codecs $2
Flash/Sdram $4
3 7-seg LEDs
3 knobs
2 buttons
Jacks
PCB

The BOM will be around $30. I need someone that can layout PCM for me.
