But it might be a bit expensive for a hobby project?
How dynamic are the scenes you want to attempt? I'd have thought that
for fairly static scenes you'd get away with a couple of identical
webcams. If it's moving imagery, then you'll probably have to sync
them together which is a bit trickier!

Samsung 3D 12 Mpixels about the price of a mid level point and shoot.

Alternatively a couple of cheap digital cameras set a few inches apart
and triggered at the same time.
