Hello all
I'm a newbie here and interested in getting hold of a Motorola DSP evaluation board to play with.
They seem pretty hard to get hold of and from the Motorola website it seems that the only one
currently available for Audio applications is a 56300 family one. But so expensive!? $750 for one?
Is this right? Can anyone point me to a supplier of these in the UK? Ideally I'd like a 56002 EVM
but wonder how much they cost if you can still buy them.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

depending on what you want it for you might consider the Soundart Chameleon
(http://www.soundart-hot.com/)
motorola 56303 running at 100Mhz, Coldfire running at 40Mhz, SDK, nice small
1U rack, 2 audio inputs, 2 audio outs and a basic UI, Here's what I've been
doing with mine ;- www.modulus.synth.net/mw2/
It saves a lot of messy wires and dev boards on your bench :-)
Its also not much more than one of the motorola DSP dev kits, but you get a
coldfire thrown in :-)

just my tuppence worth

The 56002EVM is long gone. The SRAM that was on them went obsolete
and the board never got redesigned to use something else. And, the
56002 device itself has also gone obsolete.

The audio EVM is expensive because it accomodates the entire Motorola
audio DSP product line on daughter cards and does all the nifty decoding
provided you have the appropriate licenses. It would be overkill if you do
not have the licenses or do not intend to get them.

The other 56300 family DSPs have at least as much horsepower as the
audio series as well as more internal RAM in all the memory spaces.
The peripherals are slightly different, but they should still be usable in
many audio applications.

You should take a look at the DSP56303EVM to start with since it is
the recommended upgrade path from a 56002 application.
