The processing delay of those algorithms is going to be at the order of 100...200msec at least.

I don't know if hw encoders are available. Compressing audio streams by a DSP is not a problem except for the obvious intellectual property issues.

Usually modifications of the GSM 6.10 algorithm. Fair quality. Vladimir Vassilevsky DSP and Mixed Signal Design Consultant http://www.abvolt.com

Hello Bariska,

As you aware Blackfin is up and running at 300, 400 and 600 MHz and
also available at nominal cost. May be Balckfin play critcal role to
perform Audio encoder ( MP3, AAC, WMA..aacPlus etc...).

Some of the above encoders already running on Blackfin.

Kind Regards

Have a look at: http://www.analog.com/processors/epProductPage/0,2542,SSTMELODYSHARC,00.html Regards, Andor

Dear All,

I'm looking for inexpensive hardware solution (chips) to encode groups
of 6 channel 44/48k signals into streams of preferably AAC. Or WMA or
MP3 or AC-3 if it is simpler.

The idea is that signal is input as regular 48k/24bit pcm, than the
user can select compression DR (eg 64kbps for 12 channels or 128kpbs for
6 channels) and the circuit will spit out serial encoded data in a RS422
like format to be tranmitted through a radio link.

At the receiving end a decoder would reverse the above, I can see quite
a few decoder chips.

Is there an audio encoder chip out there? (other than DSP) Any
suggestions?

What do these portableflash-card dictaphones use?

Thanks a lot for any hints
