Metrowerks Releases New Versions of CodeWarrior(tm)
Development Tools for DSP56800 and DSP56800E

Low-cost IDE with Editor, Compiler, Assembler, Linker, and
Instruction Set Simulator Provide Optimized Code Generation,
Fast Time-To-Market

AUSTIN, Texas - April 2, 2002 - Metrowerks today announced the
availability of CodeWarrior(tm) Development Tools for
DSP56800, Version 5.0. The tools support the entire family of
Motorola DSP56800 hybrid digital signal processors (DSPs),
including the DSP56F80x and DSP56F82x processors. The
56800 line of hybrid DSPs are found in a wide variety of
embedded systems including control and telephony
applications, which require highly integrated DSPs with the ease
of use of a microcontroller unit (MCU) and the flexibility enabled
by integrated Flash memory.

CodeWarrior Development Tools for DSP56800 combines a
popular Integrated Development Environment (IDE) with an open
architecture. Metrowerks helps embedded systems developers
reduce their time-to-market by providing them with a
comprehensive development solution that includes an editor,
compilers, linker and debugger all within a single IDE.

Version 5.0 includes a new version of the CodeWarrior IDE
(v4.2.6), plus additional features and enhancements in the
editor, the debugger and project manager. It also supports the
newest processors, such as DSP56F826 and DSP56F827.
Among the new features are the support of Flash programming,
the option for debugging a target chip within a JTAG chain, a
command converter protocol, enhanced setting of hardware
breakpoints, pragma interrupt handling, and reporting on
pipeline dependencies in in-line coding. Version 5.0 also
includes board specific project stationeries, and supports the
following DSP56800 Evaluation Boards: DSP56F801EVM,
DSP56F803EVM, DSP56F805EVM, DSP56F807EVM,
DSP56F826EVM, DSP56F827EVM and DSP56824EVM. Version
5.0 is also fully supported with Motorola's embedded software
development kit (SDK) for DSP56800 v2.5. Motorola's
embedded SDK offers reusable software components designed
to expedite time to market and reduce development costs.

"Metrowerks is focused on providing best-in-class DSP
development tools, making every effort to provide quality and
performance at an affordable price," said John Smolucha, vice
president of marketing, Metrowerks.
