I have checked with Texas Inst, and the VC541 is indeed obsolete. However,
the
C541 (5v part) and the LC541 (3.3v part) are still active. But I have also
confirmed that in all cases, the C5402 is lower cost. Of course, it goes
without saying that the C5402 has better performance, more features, more
memory, etc. For me, equally important is the fact you would get better
support
from peer groups and other Internet resources since the C5402 device is
actively
being used by a relatively large number of engineers who are in a design
phase.
My recommendation would be to go with the C5402. Yes in 4-5 years this device
could be obsolete also -- but that's the way it goes in engineering and
design.
You have to continually upgrade your products and generate new ones that use
new
technology -- or someone else will do it for you ;-)

Prashant Tajne-
I think it is going to be difficult for you to receive advice on the C541
processor, which is obsolete. You might consider using at least C549 or
C5402.
Probably cost is your issue, but you should at least check into cost of
C5402.

Dear All,
We are developing a project based on TMS320c541 .We wanted to know the memory
location at which the bootloader code in c541 is written ,and whether it is
factory programmed or we will have to get it programmed through TI depending
on
our Boot Mode. I will be happy if you please refer to pg.no 67 CPU and
Pheripheral(TMS320c54x-Reference set SPRU131c.pdf) in which the memory
location
of the DSP processors c542/c543/c548 are given but those of c541/c545/546 are
not given .
I will be highly obliged if you can solve my problem !.
