    Designing of filters is very easy in Matlab (6.5). At the prompt type "fdatool" and the Filter Design Toolbox GUI will fire up. If you have got the documentation available, see it for help. It is very easy to use and almost all ranges of filters can be designed by it. There are a number of examples available with it for guidance. I hope it will meet your requirement.
