Kevin,
Get an inter-library loan of

Computer approximations
By: John F Hart
Publisher: New York, Wiley [1968]
ISBN: 0471356301

It's out of print. You can buy it used if you can find it (Very
pricey).

It has tables coefficients for many types of approximations in
different
ranges of accuracy. I use it a few times a year.

I have used it for square roots and logs for the most part in RMS
routines.

Let me know if you have problems finding it. Via NG post I don't
always remember to check this email account. --- In , "KR" <kevin@r...> wrote:

Hi Kevin

Here are some sources mentioned in a talk given by Jack Ganssle at the
recent Embedded Systems Conference in Boston -

Math Toolkit for Real-Time Programming by Jack Crenshaw

"Higher Precisions": Dr. Dobbs September 1993

"Infinite Integers": Dr. Dobbs Jan. 1995

When you find a good one, how about sharing it and the source with the list?

Hi,
Can someone recommend an accurate square root algorithm for a double
precision 48 bit fractional number between 0 and 1?

Best Regards,
Kevin

Hi Kevin

Jack Ganssle's home page offers a PDF with many trig approximations.

http://www.ganssle.com/approx.htm I would also recommend his newsletter to any embedded engineer.
