Hey

Just working with the Motorola DSP56858 and Boot mode 2.

Trying to boot off Flash memory at the moment, have written the program to 0x40000 and once I reset the board it does load up and blink the LED at me to tell me its all fine. Which is great, but, I’ve also got some data which I’ve written to a few spots on the flash. Once at 0xA000 and again at 0x42000 and I’m trying to read it off the flash, but to no avail. Have tried reading at the locations 0xA000, 0x4A000, 0x2000, 0x42000. Does anyone know where flash data is remapped to? Or isn’t it remapped at all, and only the program can run from the 0x40000 start point.

Also in the user manual it states “In operating mode 2, chip select 0 is initially set to $040000” and this contradicts how it has work.. Since I can write my code to $040000 on the flash and that’s where the program runs when I reset into operating mode 2… Can someone explain?

Hi Stephane

Replacing the EVM may be cheaper than repairing it, if you can still
download the code.

Freescale tech support didn't find any 56303 eval boards in stock in Europe. They suggested www.findchips.com and enter "DSP56303EVM".

That gave two hits: Digikey and NewarkInOne. From $250 to $283.

Subject: [motoroladsp] Is the 56303 still available? Hi,

I'm new here and I've some problems with a board developped by my
predecessor. This board is based on a 56303 which is now faulty due to
manipulation error.
So 4im currently looking for a knew one but I've real difficulties to
find one.

Does somebody know where I could found it or have any information on
another one with the same specs and packaging (corresponding pins)?

It would be better the shop to be in Europe (around Belgium).

Thanks you in advance.

Hi

I have a few clarifying questions.

Are you looking for a small number of 56303 chips, to repair one or two
boards that have been damaged? In other words, are you looking for a
distributor? I listed four below. What is the exact partnumber on the chip
you want to replace?

Also, you might have to buy an older version of Code Warrior to modify code
for an older chip - I don't know.

Alternatively, are you re-designing a board, and considering porting the
code to a newer chip, and looking for different chips with similar
peripherals or identical pinout? I went to the Freescale website and found that there _is_ current
production of DSP56303PV100 in either LQFP or MAPBGA form.

Do you want a Quad Flat Package or Ball Grid Array?

From searching on "56303" in freescale.com:

1 DSP56303PV100 LQFP 144 20*20*1.4P0.5 Available Production Now
more
2 DSP56303VF100 MAPBGA 196 15*15*0.8P1.0 Available Production Now
more

Also from freescale.com:
"Many Freescale Semiconductor authorized distributors maintain stock of
obsolete devices. Freescale's preferred distributor for obsolete products is
Rochester Electronics." Maybe one of these links will help ...
