Codewarrior V7.2 56800 / E Can't debug.
Hi again,

Just in case any of you guys have similar problems, it turns out that the inbuilt parallel "command converter: on the DSP56858EVM (and my own cable based on that design) were the problem.  The DSP56858EVM has only a 3.3V buffer on the lines going to the PC.  There must be some difference between the timing of the CCS in version 7.0 and version 7.2, because the former worked and the latter didn't.

Making a new parallel command converter cable using Motorola's schematic, which includes a 5V buffer as well as the 3.3V one fixed the problem.  I would have bought one for AU$250, but couldn't afford the 6 week delivery time.

So if you have trouble communicating with your EVM (I suspect that some other EVMs besides the 56858 one have the same design), try a proper parallel command converter.

Cheers,
Alf

Subject: [motoroladsp] Codewarrior V7.2 56800 / E Can't debug.

Hi Guys,
just installed Codewarrior V7.2 for 56800 / E.  Now I'm getting the following message at the start of a download:

CCS Protocol Plugin: CCS: Core not responding.  I'm using a parallel cable under Windows 2k.

Looking at the CCS window in "log verbose" mode, it gets a fair way (reads registers, etc. and starts actual download) before bombing out.  Has anyone had similar experiences (or can suggest a fix/workaround)?

Thanks,
Alf Katz
