Better get TI OMAP-L138 LCDK - it has tons of useful I/O not to mention second ARM core so it can run Linux too. http://rt-dsp.com/2nd_ed/board_comparison.pdf

If you run any of those above OS you can download and install a VM and Win XP image from Microsoft. It works well. I've used it to run software that doesn't run on a later Microsoft OS than XP.

Great idea. I just looked at the VMware website, and they seem to state that you're allowed to create an XP virtual machine so long as your underlying Windows version is Win 7 Ultimate, Win 7 Professional, or Win 7 Enterprise. (I have no direct experience with this however.) Steve

Hi All,

First of all, thanks very much to all of you for your replies.

As per one of the suggestions, I downloaded a newer version of CCS (v5.5)
on my Vista PC and, to my utter surprise, the DSK seems to work fine with
it. I have only run a simple helloWorld-type program, but I am able to
step through it and view the variables etc. I guess I completely
misunderstood the documentation and wrongly thought that only CCS v3 can
be used with teh DSK.

Thanks once again to everyone who replied.

Upgrade to Windows 7 or newer and download current version of Code Composer Studio (5 or 6) Better buy a new laptop with Windows - they are cheap nowadays btw, DSK6713 is pretty useless by itself, without additional I/O card

I don't have any recommendations on where to get a copy of XP, but once you do you can install it as a virtual machine on anything that will run the virtual players like VM Player, the basic version of which can be downloaded for free. This way you won't need a separate machine that runs XP just to use the DSK. Eric Jacobsen Anchor Hill Communications http://www.anchorhill.com

I bought DSK6713 some time ago, to use with my Windows XP laptop. The DSK
came with Code Composer Studio v3.1. I also have a desktop PC with Windows
Vista.

Due to work and family life, I couldn't find time to use it for several
years. In the meantime, I wiped XP from my laptop and installed Ubuntu.

Now I intend to use the DSK once again for my personal learning but can't
do it because of the following problems:

1) CCSv3.1 doesn't seem to work with Vista. The installation process went
smoothly, but when I start CCS, it gives a Windows error message saying
something "Code Composer Application has stopped working".

2) The other option is to reinstall XP on my laptop. Even though I bought
a new laptop with genuine Windows installed, I don't have reinstallation
media for Windows XP (I have the license key though). I have searched the
Internet but I can't find legit XP installation files.

What would people here suggest I do?

Regards
FRQ
