Try do disable Klipper. It seems Matlab and Klipper don't go along well.
Cheers

Good idea... I'm switching to emacs instead of using the inbuilt Matlab
editor. I have the .el file for Matlab, so the coloring is fine, I
guess the only feature I will miss from the Matlab editor is the
debugging tools, which are quite good. Can you debug in emacs?

It is a common problem when using X-emacs for GUI....
To fix it check if the version of the software (matlab) u have installed
supports the OS version u have...
U'll get it probably in the read-me document....

So how do I fix it? I love Linux, but I'm crap at it :-(.

appears your display configuration is not set properly.

my Matlab has started crashing every 3 minutes. It's driving me nuts.
I'm not even running any code, just editing code, which leads me to
believe its a java virtual machine problem.
I am on a Debian Linux machine, and all was running grand till I
recently did an apt-get update/upgrade and now it's banjaxed.
When I run Matlab i get...
/usr/local/bin/matlab: line 1: /lib/libc.so.6: Permission denied
And then once I start editing code, I get about five lines and it all
shuts down...
Segmentation fault
I am good at algorithms but not very good with computers, I'd
appreciate if someone could suggest what is going wrong. It especially
crashes when I do cut and paste, or when i switch between desktops.
When this happens I get...
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range
for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 18 (X_ChangeProperty)
Value in failed request: 0x4
Serial number of failed request: 6870
Current serial number in output stream: 6872
