Aha, perhaps this is a solution. I'd ruin the threads in Google group, but since they'd still be viewable in other servers, then this might not be much of an issue.

This is technically true, but it is (or at least was) a matter of Usenet ettiquette that one use a valid email address so that potentially, one could receive an email rather than a posted reply to a post. Steve

This is a USENET newsgroup. Google aliases them to make them look like Google's internal groups, but they're different. USENET is old, and was created before spam was invented, so the notion of hiding one's email addresses hadn't occurred to anyone. Moreover, there isn't a single server, and this is an unmoderated group, meaning that there's no one sysadmin that you can appeal to. The best thing to do if you like the group is to get a real newsreader, and an account that has newsgroup access (I use Giganews, but I've heard good things about Eternal September). Among other nice features of a newsreader (like kill files for trolls) is the ability to use a fake email address. -- Tim Wescott Control systems, embedded software and circuit design I'm looking for work! An email account is not necessary to post to a Usenet newsgroup such
as news:comp.dsp

Usenet clients do not check whether or not an email address is in a
From field. For example I am using the Usenet client Alpine (
  WWW.Washington.edu/alpine/
) and I typed something that is not an email address into this From
field as an axample for thee.

Thy sincerely,
Colin Paul de Gloucester

"Not using the web at all" sounds like my best attempt to have a proper work ethics. ;-) Gene

You can delete any of your posts from Google (how to do this should be clear from the Google Groups interface). They will still exist on other servers. Steve

There is no site, and this group is not moderated. Scott -- Scott Hemphill hemphill@alumni.caltech.edu "This isn't flying. This is falling, with style." -- Buzz Lightyear

You should also be aware that what you are posting to is not a Google group. It is something called Usenet. Google provides a portal to Usenet, but many of us are not using the web at all to access this group. Scott -- Scott Hemphill hemphill@alumni.caltech.edu "This isn't flying. I could delete the posts that I've made from emails that I wouldn't want to display, but that would ruin the threads :/

I also thought about doing this post specifically here, in case the moderator of this site might have something to say.
