P.S. I forgot to mention I am on the Windows platform. I would most likely
stream from a Windows 2000 box to an XP box.

IceCast is what I have used for streaming Ogg Vorbis audio in the past,
but I think it can handle other media formats too. It's free. It seems
to be designed for internet radio uses, but I believe you can set it up
so that only certain IP addresses can listen, and I'm fairly sure there
is a way to password protect the stream too.

Does anyone know of a way to send a high-quality (better than telephone-quality)
audio stream over the Internet? I would like to stream audio from my work to my
home. I have a broadband Internet connection at both ends, and VPN is possible
as well. There seems to be plenty of products that deal with telephone-quality
audio (VOIP, voice-chat program, etc.), but I haven't found anything for
higher-quality audio. I tried the recently-released Google Talk to do this, but
found the quality unacceptable. Something like a 128kbps MP3 stream would be
ideal.
My purpose is to be able to increasingly work from home while leaving all my
tools at work. Using remote control software (RealVNC) to control my work PC
from home is working well to allow for code development, accessing network
resources, etc. But since I am in audio development, being able to listen the
results of my code changes is key to allow me to fully work remotely.
Free solutions would be ideal, though commercial products would be considered as
well. This is a bit OT for DSP, so recommendations of other places to ask are
solicited as well. Thanks!
