The "Direct Form 1" way is: Y(z) b_2 z^2 + b_1 z + b_0 For H(z) = ---- = --------------------- U(z) z^2 + a_1 z + a_0 you get y(n) = b_2 u(n) + b_1 u(n-1) + b_2 u(n-2) - a_1 y(n-1) - a_0 y(n-2).
