I agree. For whatever reason the 'autoranging' for the
TCLK does not seem to be working. Forcing it to
10.368 would be a good choice. I am not sure how
their batch file ['BHprobe_USB560m.bat'] is setup, but
their docs should give you a clue.

Interesting. i think you are the first person that I
have communicated with who has 2 emulators and 1
target board.

HI! Prabhakar!
please check in
CCS Setup->My System(DM642 EVM XDS560 Emulator)->Rigth Click->Properties-->Board properties-->TCLK
try changing this frequency, 3 options are there Auto, 10.368Mhz or User defined,
as per log you have sent it must be Auto, try with selecting other two.

Hope this helps

I have run the blackhawk diagnostic program "BHprobe_USB560m.bat".

Performing integrity test on scan-path

---[An error has occurred and this utility has aborted]---------

This error is generated by TI's USCIF driver.

The error's value is: `-291'.
The error's title is: `SC_ERR_TST_AUTOMATIC'.

The error's explanation is:
The utility or debugger has requested the PLL generating the JTAG
clock to automatically select a frequency by using an auto-ranging
algorithm. The built-in scan-path test has repeatedly failed.
This indicates that the auto-ranging algorithm cannot find
a frequency that will allow the JTAG controller to reliably
communicate with the target DSP's and micro-controllers.
Try using the legacy frequency or a known good specific frequency.

Test Failed!

Any comments on this would be appreciated..

Mike,

I do not have any other TI DSP board. But, the DM642 EVM board is just working fine with the XDS510USB JTAG Emulator.
I have run the blackhawk diagnostic program "BHprobe_USB560m.bat".
Here I pasted the LOG file generated.

Wed 03/29/2006 11:30:30.15
--------------------------
Performing integrity test on scan-path

Thanks and Regards

I assume that PCI_EN == 1.
My approach to trouble shooting might be a bit
different... [I have not verified this wih PCI, but I
believe that it will work].
1. Create a scenario that is as simple as possible.
To this create a very simple program [a 'forever
loop'] that loads into internal SRAM. Build it with a
special 'vectors' file - reset branches to the
beginning of your code and all other vectors are

4. Reset the board.
5. load #1 via the host and set DSPINT.
6. Halt the processor and read the PC.
7. Does it give a clue??

Hello Mike,

I am developing a PCI boot card based on DM642. My card failed to
boot after the BIN code was downloaded and the DSPINT bit in the HDCR
register was set. I can verify the code was placed from address 0x0, and
the content was right by reading back through the CCS.

The OS of the PCI host was linux and the booting process is listed
below:

1. Initialze the EMIF through the 8M memory window mapped to the PCI host

2. Set the DSPP register through the 8M memory window.

3. Download the code through the 4M memory window.

4. Set the DSPINT bit int eh HDCR register.

BTW, after the DSPINT bit was set, I connected to the DM642 with
JTAG port and found that the PC (Instruction Pointer of the DM642) was
neither 0x00 nor the _c_int00 address. It is likely that the PC didn't
"run" the bin code. But the bin code was verified to be downloaded
correctly into the DM642 for sereral times.

Do you have any idea that I missed some operation during the boot
process?

prabhakar,

I strongly suggest you probe the EMU0 and EMU1 signal of your
DM642. It is very to do that by probing them on the JTAG connector.
Probably, you will get an intermedate voltage level. If this really
happened, your emulator was likely "damaged". I am not quite sure whether
the emulator or the DM642 is "down", correct me if you have any idea of
that.

You can still use the emulator by connecting the problem signal to
VCC DIRECTLY, or, through a small enough resistor, such as 75-ohm. One
more thing, this solution is completely NOT guarenteed. Take your own risk
with your test.

CCS 3.1 supports the DM642 - I am not sure about CCS
2.20.18.
Do you have a different TI DSP board on which you can
check the emulator?? [DSK, etc.] Be very careful when
connecting to the DM642 - I have heard of a couple of
cases where the DM642 was "zapped" from
connecting/disconnecting the emulator.

Hello Mike,

Today I got the XDS560 USB from blackhawk. After installing the XDS560 drivers and configured CCS to DM642 via XDS560USB, I am getting the following problem.

Can't Initialize Target CPU:
Error 0x80001240/-1145
Fatal Error during: Initialization,OCS, Target,
Unrecoverable emulation error

Board Name: DM642EVM via USB560m Emulator - (Blackhawk)
Cpu Name:CPU_1
I have tested this with CCS v 2.20.18 and CCS v 3.1, but in both cases I am getting the same problem . Is there any update required for target DM642EVM? This EVM is from Spectrum digital's. I have searched SD's website but no such info.

The drivers selected are "tixds560c64x_11.dvr"

Thanks & Regards
