By 'removing noise' i did not mean it could remove noise *completely*. Different masks can be used. Certain masks can make the image less noisy.

I do not know how image masking would help in your project. An image is two dimensional. I do not know about seismographs, but i think it is one dimesional. Answers to the other question would be of more help in this case.

i think a book on image processing will give you a lot of idea on this. _____________________________________ Do you know a company who employs DSP engineers? Is it already listed at http://dsprelated.com/employers.php ?

thnx for the brief info..and since u mentioned tht masking can remove noise,i would like to know how it can remove noise. because im currently workin on my final year project on noise removal in seismograph. i did some google on noise removal in seismograph and found some open source code bt havent had the time to try it yet.. would like to get as much idea as possible.. thnx ;)

hi,

Masking is a way to filter an image. the input to a masking function is an
image and the output is a filtered/maksed image.

well, the masking funciton(generally matrix) depends on what you would
like to do with the image. it can smoothen the image, remove noise, or
sharpen the image etc.

you can google gaussian masking matrices(which use the gaussian kernel) or
a simple mean filter for simple applications like smoothening and
sharpening...

just for an example, see this site:

hi everyone,

can u explain to me what is masking?and its function in image
processing?its a new thing for me since ive never studied on image
processing before..would like to know more in detail..thnx ;)
