is a link for Motorola 56001 code for a graphic equalizer.
I believe this is the code for one I have somewhere a booklet
describing. It reads the values of the potentiometers with
an analog multiplexer and A/D converter, then uses those to
generate the filter coefficients.

My choice would probably be one control for each band, covering
both channels, but they did it separately for each channel.

This was before the standard for digital audio I/O, so I believe
they tapped into a CD player.

Hmm... you'll need VAC (Virtual Audio Cable http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.html) or loopback cable (cable from soundcards line-out to line-in) for above software combination to get the EQ working w/ the playback software mentioned there. W/ ASIO capable players you could use ReaRouteASIO driver (comes w/ Cockos Reaper - http://www.cockos.com/reaper/). IIRC, there was one globally working Standalone EQ available but, it was very pricey (~500$) at that time I did searching one. Sorry, but, I can't remember the vendor name anymore. I have not see 1/3 octave EQs for WMP or RealPlayer yet. For WMP there is this IZotope Ozone (http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/media/ozone.html) but I don't know if it has as good EQ features as the original Ozone VST does have. With Winamp, Foobar, J.R MediaCenter and Mediamonkey, as for an example, you can use all those available VST/DX EQ's through VST/DX Host DSP plugins/Bridge plugin. Winamp and MediaMonkey (can be used same plugins): VST support - VST Host DSP for Winamp - http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=106222&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=60 DirectX support - FFX-4 for WinAmp - http://perso.wanadoo.fr/vb-audio/us/products/dxrack/dxrack.htm Foobar: Bridge Plug-in for winamp DSP for Foobar 0.8.x-0.9.x or for Foobar 0.9.x - http://pelit.koillismaa.fi/plugins/dsp.php / http://pelit.koillismaa.fi/plugins/plugins/476/foo_dsp_winamp.zip + above mentioned VST Host DSP for Winamp and/or FFX-4 for Winamp. If you like to use several plugins simultaenously, this can be done by loading the Acon EffectChainer (DX/VST) - http://www.acondigital.com/us_EffectChainer.html into VST DSP Host and then those other plugins into it. Here are some more excellent EQ plugins - KarmaFX EQ (VST) - http://karmafx.net/ - Electri-Q posihfopit edition (VST/Winamp)- http://www.aixcoustic.com/index.php/Electri-Q-posihfopit/30/0/ - SSS Linear Phase Graphics EQ (VST) - http://www.geocities.jp/webmaster_of_sss/vst/#lpgeq2 jtp

Does anyone do one of these that will run standalone on a PC?
I need one that will fit itself between the output data stream and
whatever is creating the audio stream, whether WMP, RealPlayer, WinAmp etc

There doesn't appear to be anything that can do this.
Is it even possible?
I'm even willing to pay a fair amount of money for such a product.
