We routinely use serial flash with the SHARC. There is an ap not that Brian 
Mitchell wrote on the ADI site that might help you out. It was for the 
21262 which is quite similar.

I hope you can understand my thread, my English is not the best, sorry.
It is the first time i use a DSP. I have a ADSP 21362 Boar with a
SST-39VF1601 Parallel Flash and a SST-25VF512A SPI Serial Flash. The
connection between ADSP and Flash is like the design on the ADSP-21364
EZ-Kit. But i cant write/read the Flash with the VisualDSP Flash-Tool.
So i search a Tutorial or a walkthrough to use a Flsh with a ADSP or can
