That's correct. When you purchase video encoders like h.264 the 3rd party codec will utilize the VICP to do things like motion estimation. This is all done internal to the codec and the end-user would have no visibility into this.

Hi,

I am evaluating several DSPs for a multimedia application, such as
DaVinci (Texas Instruments), Nexperia(NXP), Blackfin (Analog Devices)
an so on. I have noticed that some DSPs belonged to TI have a VICP
(Video & Image coprocessor) which is like a "black box" for
programmers and it is only available for Third Parties of TI:

(1) Is this right? What are the limits for using that coprocessor?
(2) DSPs of Nexperia have also an 'Image Coprocessor', does it have
the same limitation?
(3) What do you know about this kind of limitations into the actual
DSPs?
