It was clouded over here and I had given up seeing it. At some point I stepped outside to see if a glimpse was possible. The sky had cleared and there it was, pretty much like in your photograph! Thanks for the picture. Jerry -- Engineering is the art of making what you want from things you can get.

I picked up my copy in the bookstore for the equivalent of USD 100 or so. It is used in a class at the university, so there may be some volume discounts factored in, but by and large it is more or less standard price for textbooks. Rune

Ah, OK, thanks. I must admit I haven't used it since my student days, and wasn't sure if I was just misremembering it. One thing I remember about it was that we had a single "lab copy" that was jealously guarded because it was so eye-wateringly expensive. Is that still the case? Cheers mark-r --

Thanks for the comments Rune. Since I've always done RF and telco apps, I never messed with processing poor images alot. Now that I'm getting into astrophotography I'm doing quite a bit I'm looking at their tried and true methods. Thanks for the pointer on the book. I have been playing quite a bit with stacking images and it works quite well. Clay

That has a fantastic colour range, is there a higher res. version about? If you don't mind I'd like to print that at A3 and stick it on a wall at home!

It was originally, according to the preface of this new book. Apparently Gonzales and Wintz wrote the first couple of editions, and then it became Gonzales and Woods. The full story is outlined in the 2008 book. Rune

A nice image! I missed that eclipse, as it occured at 4AM local time. There was one lunar eclipse in 2000 or 2001 which happened around 10PM local time. The weather was clear, so everybody saw everything. It was very interesting to see how the lights went off in one house after the other, as people turned off the indoor lights in order to see better.

Why? ;) If you really want to go that way: I just got a copy of the 2008 edition of Gonzales & Woods' classic text on image processing. Compared to the 1987 and 1992 editions, this new one is far more focused on practical techniques as opposed to concepts. It still requires a bit of work to decode the useful techniques from the text, but not nearly as much as with the previous editions. Rune
