I don't even know where to begin comparing the two!  You give very
little
background on your experience, so let me assume that you are familiar
with speech coding systems but not with communication receivers.

The hardest part will probably be the synchronization part of Wimax,
especially if you have never dealt with OFDM receivers before.  This
is
usually the most "shocking" part for those coming from a speech or
source coding background.  The difficulty is of course scaled
according to
how much synchronization you need to do, determined by the
architecture
(all-digital?  part analog?  sampling clock offset?  direct
conversion?) and
the component ratings (clock drift, jitter, etc.).

Notice that the link posted by Particlereddy doesn't even consider
synchronization.

It's apples and oranges. If you are doing a basis of estimate, base it
on something similar like 802.11.
