TMX usually indicates experimental, pre-production chips. Production
parts have the TMS prefix on them. I haven't seen the 5416 DSK so I
can't comment on USB, except that they ought to have included a
schematic of the board with it.

Joel,
I believe the USB circuitry on the 5416 is proprietary to
Spectrum Digital. I also searched the TI site for that TMX
chip and couldn't find it.
I don't think the intention of the DSK is for users to develop
USB applications, but rather, DSP applications. The USB port
is just a way of interfacing the DSK to the PC. The details
are not necessary to know.
