Metrowerks Linux for ADI Blackfin release (fwd)

Started by Kenneth Porter August 28, 2003
The download is a 107 MB CDROM image (.iso). It can be mounted on a Linux
system with:

mkdir /mnt/Blackfin
mount blackfin.iso /mnt/Blackfin -t iso9660 -o loop

It contains RPM's and SRPM's for binutils and gcc, and a tarball with the
uClinux port and a sample linux.dxe binary targeted at the Eagle board.

You'll need to fill out a small form on the Metrowerks website and then the
download link is emailed to you.

I met the Metrowerks developer in the ADI booth at the last Embedded Systems
show in San Francisco, and got an early preview, since I have a Red Hat box to
tinker with it on.

I was able to rebuild the tool chain (binutils and gcc) and have run through
the kernel-building process.

I haven't been successful at getting the canned kernel to fire up on an ezkit,
but it may be due to it being too different from the Eagle board used for
development, and it might be necessary to change some of the build-time
configuration.

Are you working on "porting" it to the BF-535-EZLITE??

Not actively. I'm working on a project integrating a 535 with a 21161.
Don't know if I'll use Linux on that yet.

Hi,

the Metrowerks uCLinux port to BF-535 should work fine on the BF-535-
EZKIT. Except you are using a Blackfin silicon hardware revision 0.1
or 0.2 due to a hardware bug(SIC_IMASK). In this case use the PUB
Board option, it seems that this option deals with the SIC_IMASK
problem.

The SDRAM configuration registers should be initialized to following
values:

SDGCTL 91998D (changes to 11998d)
SDBCTL 1
SDRRC 74A

greetings, michael
