bf533 + usb ?

Started by M B October 16, 2003
Hello Group

Can anyone suggest a recommended interface or
reference design to hook up a USB chip (likes of
Cypress or Philips) with the BF533.

Any pointers would be a great help.

Best Regards
MB

I'm not sure about the BF533 but I know that the EZ-Kit for the ADSF-21161 has a USB port.  I think the schematics are available on-line.

All the new EZ Kits use a built in USB Emulator using a Cypress Chip
directly to the JTAG port. It is not an interface that is useful for
general purpose USB interfacing.

The schematics for this part of the board is usually not included in the EZ
Kit manual.

Our dspstak family of Analog Devices based dsp boards all have a USB
interface available for both program upload and user applications. We
currently support the ADSP-21161, ADSP-21262 & ADSP-2191. We have plans for
a Blackfin version next year.

Our boards use chips from FTDI. FTDI provides royalty free device drivers
for most OSs and basically the chip looks like a COM port. They are very
easy for our customers to use which is the main reason we chose these parts.

Look at NetChip, there's an app note that either they or ADI did showing how to
hook up their USB chips. Regards,

Good day,

Thet's true: the on-board USB interface on the EzKit
Lites is not intended for PC to DSP communication for
user applications, it is rather an USB emulator,
similar to the Apex kind of emulators from ADI.

We at SanJaaC Electronics have developed a very cheap
USB daugther board for the ADSP-21160-EZLITE, also
based on FTDI chips (like Al mentioned).

We could design yours for the BF-533, with a very
small price tag. Instead of moving to a somewhat
different platform for developing, you could continue
using the EzKit Lite, with added USB flexibility.

If you are interested, please contact me at Regards,

Hi,

The USB interface on the ezKits is not for user apps,
rather for emulation purposes.

Moreover, that part of the schematics is not publicily
available... ADI considers it propietary.

I'd recommend you to go for FTDI chips instead. They
are very easy to use, and have royality free
drivers!!!

BTW, note that the 535 has USB on-chip, and just needs a Philips tranceiver to
connect to the bus. This has the benefit that you can isolate and bus-power
the transceiver using magnetic isolators (much faster than optos), protecting
you from ground loops and other electrical ugliness.

hi every one,

i have a problem.

i have configured my ModeA,ModeB ModeC pins as 1,0,1
