About License and Register

Started by henriqueresende March 22, 2005
It's the first time that I'm using the VisualDSP++, and I've
already had some problem to register it. I ran the installation
program and filled the license field with the serial number that
was written on the CD. After that, I was asked to register online
to have another number to finish to install. I've received the
number and the register was completed correctly. After the message
of right installation has apeared I tried to run the program, but
another message didn't allow me to go on, it said the registration
number isn't valid. I think the problem could be because
I've installed the program in two different computers so,
is it possible to be that the problem?
What can I do to run the program in any computer?

You need a floating license. Search www.analog.com for floating license
and see what's required.

AFAIK, Floating Licenses are more expensive, and they
are supposed to be used with the tools installed in a
central computer (server, maybe?), and workstations
connectig to it.

Sometime ago I read, I don't quite remember exactly
where (maybe here, maybe an e-mail from ADI), that the
one-user (one seat) license scheme allowed you to
install the tools in up to around 3 computers, so you
could install it both in your laptop for on-the-field
coding, and your PCs at work (for working!) and at
home (for playingwith those DSP toys, maybe). What
you'd had to do is to repeat the serial number request
process, in order to get the 3 license.dat files, that
allow you to run the tools on 3 different computers.
Beware that the process has to be run from the
computer where the tools are being installed, and will
be used, because the process gathers some info from
THAT computer, and sends it to ADI, in order to get
back a license file for THAT computer.

IHTH.

I did check as I was curious and Jaime is right. On page 1-10 of the
"VisualDSP++ 4.0 User's Guide" it states that the user can install and
register up to three copies of a "Single-User" license.

Hi,

Good to know that. As far as I recall, it works this
way since VisualDSP++ 2.0.

Maybe many of us have missed the fun (overhead,
maybe??) of having VisualDSP++ registered in several
(up to 3) computers at a time.

Regards,

JaaC
