Hi, I have been wondering if is it possible to do SHARC and 218X-219x development on the same computer, I mean, VisualDSP++ 1.0 SP1 and VisualDSP++ 2.0 for 21xx on the same hard disk? Any pointer on how to do it is ver, very welcomed. Best regards, |

VDSP++ for SHARC and 21xx on the same hard disk

I haven't used that combination, but I've used VDSP 1SP1 together with the motor controls development system for the ADMC401. The latter installs the command line tools for the 21xx core into the VDSP directories. |
The motor controls tools don't use the VDSP IDE right now, so
there's no conflict. MCD (at least for the 401) uses a separate debugger. Hi, The sharc version of VisualDSP++ will NOT co-exist with the 21xx VisualDSP++. This is what Tech Support told me last march: Chuck, You can install as many different versions as you want, but unfortunately they're just not going to work (and will probably give windows a heart-attack). Our tools weren't designed to co-exist with one another, so the only way you would really be able to get both versions on one machine would be to totally isolate each of them by dual-booting your machine with dual partitions. Of course the sharc VisualDSP++ 2.0 will be able to co-exist with the 21xx stuff. Unfortunately for me, I've got products in the field using VDSP 4.x.x, so I'll never be able to take advantage of that wonderful future co-existence. hope this helps... Hi, Actually the current SHARC version of VisualDSP++ (1.0) WILL co-exist with the current version of VisualDSP++ for 21xx (2.0) I have both running on my laptop, installed into the same directory, and are not having any problems. But the older tools of 21xx (6.1, 7.0) will not co-exist with anything that isn't 2.0. Hi, guys. I don't know who should I trust to. I would like Eirik, but certeinly, I don't want to become unuseful my actual installation of VDSP 1.0 for SHARC. So, should I first install VDSP++ 2.0 for 21xx and over it, install VDSP 1.0 SP1 for SHARC? Or viceversa? What about the installation messages that appear standing that the new installation will "upgrade" the actual one? Does it mean it will replace the IDE, compiler, debugger and so on? In such a case, it is abolutely worthless. Best regards, Jaime.

Hi, I had the VDSP++ 1.0 already installed, and just installed the ++2.0 over. Actually I have them both running now.... It will not replace the IDE, and the ++2.0 has a "new" IDE called IDDE (they have added a Debug..:), and the compiler, linker, assembler will put itself nicely in together with the SHARC tools. The debugger also will not be touched, as it now is integrated into the IDDE. Of course you can call this an upgrade, as you now also have the new compiler, asm, and linker. ADI does not recommend putting the two tools on the same computer, and that you should wait for the ++2.0 release of the SHARC tools (sometime at the end of the month, I believe). The 2.0 versions of tools (SHARC, 21xx, BlackFIN, TS) are supposed to be able to live happily together. But if you are in a hurry, and need the two tools on the same computer, there isn't much stopping you.... at least in my experience.
