gunshot sound

Hi,

i m new in this field.
My first question is- which parameters are to be taken for gunshot
sound analysis except frequency and energy.

My second question is- which software/softwares helps/help in the
analysis of gunshot sound.

Hi Aman,

As you mentioned gunshot sound can be analyzed with frequency components
(FFT) or energy. Time domain view of these sound carry more
information. I would suggest using spectrograms or wavelet based plots
view them ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectrogram
).

If you wish to classify the gunshots, you can implement those on the
spectrograms. If you are interested in sound damage to other equipments,
you will need time domain energy since rise time can be of importance.
You might want to look at loudness curves if you want to see the
perceptual effects.
