Mp3 encoder

Hi all,
do u know which is the best MP3 encoder, i mean LAME, Thomson or Fraunhofer???

How is the testing of MP3 encoder carried out since no standard test vectors are
available???
what are the songs or teststreams that are generally used for MP3 encoder
testing????
Can somebody send me those or the URLs of those streams????

What are the modules that has to be tested thoroughly ???

Since there are no standard test vectors available for MP3 encoder, how do we
say that the MP3 encoder developed by someone is full proof??

Hi Akash,

1. I don't know about Thomson, but among Fraunhofer & LAME, LAME is
much
better & is   updated continuously.

2. No standard test cases are defined for verification of the encoder,
because it is difficult to define few test case that can cover variety
of audio source signals. Hence Encoder standards are only informative,
to allow continuous improvement.

3. Regarding the modules that are to be tested thoroughly, psycho
acoustic model &  quantization module are more critical & they make the
difference between different MP3 Encoders in terms of quality, bit rate
and MIPS. Even though other modules are also critical, you can define
few number of test cases, to verify their functionality. But, the
functionality of psycho acoustic model & quantizer can be defined only
qualitatively (bit rate & quality they finally result in). Hence there
is no specific test case(s) to verify their functionality. 

 I don't have any URL link for some difficult test cases right now, but
http://www.mp3-tech.org/ may be useful.
