USB 2.0 Daughtercard

Started by "Abboud,Charley" June 11, 2008
Has anyone been sucessful installing the drivers for this Daughtercard.
I have a DSK 6416 board. The User Guide for the card has two sets of
instructions for software installation, both of which are not very
helpful.

Any advice would be appreciated. Just point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Charley,

There have been previous posts on this group concerning the AvNet
'Texas Instruments DSK to USB 2.0 Daughtercard'.
Please check the archives.

Are you having problems installing DSK code or Host code??

Please include the group on all posts. There is likely to be someone
lurking out there who has the Avnet board.

I believe I installed the provided DSK code through code composer.

Now I am trying to find some way to install the EZUSB.SYS device
driver on the host. They do provide an executable (EZ-
USB_devtools_version_261700.exe), which I believe automates the
process of installing all the required device drivers; however it did
not seem to do anything when I ran it. The instructions provided in
the User Guide do not correlate at all to what I am seeing on the
screen.

NOTE: Just to be clear, I have never used these tools.

I would expect ezusb.sys to land in c:\windows\system32\drivers.
Check there for it. if you don't see it, search the windows directory
for it.

The driver is from Cypress. You may want to check their website [you
may need the part number off of the USB chip on the daughtercard] for
some possibly more current info or an app note that might help.

Which USB daughtercard are you using? Avnet, as Mike suggested? Another one?
Please be specific.

Which DSK board? The driver and test program situation is different for different
DSK boards.

Sorry, i was replying to one person instead of the whole group.

Texas Instruments DSK to USB 2.0 Daughtercard. The one with the
CY7C68001 USB controller.

You can find it here:
http://www.em.avnet.com/evk/home/0,1719,RID%253D7554%2526CID%
253D13035%2526CCD%253DUSA%2526SID%253D7546%2526DID%253DADA%2526SRT%
253D1%2526LID%253D7553%2526PRT%253D0%2526PVW%253D%2526PNT%253D%
2526BID%253DDF2%2526CTP%253DEVK,00.html

The board is the Spectrum Digital TMS320C6416T DSK.

I loaded the target DSK with the embedded code provided. I have the
GUI USB utility that they provided, but I was unable to load the
drivers, so the card is not recognized.

Apparently, the driver file is called EZUSB.SYS, and the executable
(EZ-USB_devtools_version_261700.exe) was supposed to install the
driver/s.

Sorry, I'm new at this.

Ok, that's an Avnet card, designed and manufactured by Avnet. You need to ask Avnet
for their docs and CCS example projects and test programs that describe and
demonstrate using the card with the DSK 6416 board. There should be an Avnet FAE who
will support you.

Ok... some confusion here. What does the Spectrum Digital (SD) "GUI USB" utility
have to do with the Avnet daughtercard? The SD utility will use the built-in USB
port on the DSK, not the USB connection on the daughtercard. These are two different
(way different!) things. SD can't help you with the Avnet daughtercard (or at least
I don't think they can).

Again, Avnet FAE is the person to ask. My company has used the Avnet card before
with DSK 5510, but not with DSK 6416, otherwise I could be more helpful. Maybe other
group members have some specific experience with that combination.

Has anyone out there successfully installed the device drivers for this
card? I really just need help with this part.

Ok.

You posted this to me, not to the group. As I noted below, my company has used the
Avnet card before with DSK 5510, but not with DSK 6416. Maybe other group members
have some specific experience with that combination. Suggest that you post to the
group.
