The TMS320TCI6488 is not a normal TI product, i.e. you cannot just order it.
You will need to contact a TI rep to get any of the device details. An
NDA may be required to get the datasheet - I am not sure of the exact
process.

6488 is a "non catalog" part, which means that you can't simply go to a distributor
such as Avnet or Arrow and buy it without obtaining authorization from TI.
First, you and/or your company need an NDA with TI to obtain detailed information
about the device. Depending on what you are doing, for example wireless applications
such as base-station, you may also need to purchase a reference design / software
license agreement from TI.
For more info on this, suggest to contact TI-India and/or Cranes Software. If you
need contact info for correct people at TI-India and/or Cranes, please let me know.

I may have been wrong... with some better searching I was able to find the 6487
Product Folder:
http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/tms320tci6487.html
which has the 6487/88 data sheet (same link as you found). It might be that 6488 was
non-catalog at one point, but is now a catalog device.
This press release says there is an EVM 6487 available:
http://focus.ti.com/pr/docs/preldetail.tsp?sectionIdY4&prelId=sc07159
but I can't find a webpage for it.
Also there is a TCI6482 DSK board, you might look into that. Single-core I guess,
but maybe similar enough to the 6487 EVM to be useful.

Yep... 6474 and SmartReflex has TI moving in the right direction again, a renewed focus on what they do really well.
Multicore (DSPs), smaller, lower power, and cheaper. That is so excellent.
Now if they can apply this to 8 core, that would be something.
Other than wireless accelerators, can anyone see an obvious reason to use C6488 instead of 6474? Memory seems the same.

I dont. Peripherals and interfaces seems to be the only thing
justifies choosing C6488 over C6474. In fact from specs it seems that
C6474 memory interface(DDR2-667) is faster than C6455's(DDR2-533). Iam
assuming the 6455 and 6488 have similar memory specs. So it might be
the case that C6474 might be a better option than 6488 for newer
designs.
Again, it would be nice to hear TI expert's opinion on this.
